Multiscale mechanical characterizations of ultrafine tailings mixed with incineration slag

Adding a type of municipal solid waste (incinerator slag) into ultrafine tailings can effectively enhance the mechanical properties tailings. With an aim to study macro- and micro-mechanical slag mixture (TSM), strength parameters (internal friction angle, cohesion) with different contents were analyzed by geotechnical experiments particle flow simulations, respectively. The macroscale experimental results demonstrated that TSM much higher than Strength also showed non-linear-rising trends increasing content. For content 40%, maximum cohesiveness was determined at 65.2 kPa, corresponding angle 39.9°C. Furthermore, Particle Flow Code (PFC) micro-simulation software used analyze characteristics contents. microscale simulation outcomes indicated transport, particularly in their moving directions, became increasingly chaotic increase content; also, particles significantly impacted shear processing zone TSM.
